A good portion is thanks to blockchain gaming.
First this is by no means an endorsement or financial advice, DOYR. This short article offers my opinion on the attractive features that are the base of blockchain gaming.
We often hear the phase, ‘It’s just the tip of the iceberg’, and sometimes forget what that really means. But if we recall from our science studies and visualize an iceberg we recall the major mass 85-90% of its structure lies below the water line and just 10-15% on the surface. How this all relates to blockchain gaming is its’ ability to offer and do so much beyond ‘playing a game’ - more that what we see.

Underneath the surface lies many layers of opportunities for anyone willing/ready to fully engage in this area.
Lets name a few:

-Owning the assets - #NFTs  you acquire to play.
-The option to sell, trade, even upgrade on those same assets.
-Play and earn - depending on the game either sell asset or token for FIAT.
-Collecting, or purchasing additional assets to own.
-Community/Player collaboration opportunities for a project or in-game ventures.
-Participate in additional ‘revenue’ opportunities with Decentralized Finance (#DeFi) or GameFi.

As you can imagine there is a lot going on under the hood, and is definitely not for the impatient. However if I were to use another famous analogy ‘down the rabbit hole’ if you decide to dive in you could discover and create interesting opportunities.

For virtual Land enthusiasts, time to get ready and GO!!
Starting this coming Tuesday at 9am PST, the city of Brooklyn will open its first wave for purchase. Second wave 9pm PST supporting different time zones.

Basically the amount of areas available for purchase will be split in two, one half locked until the second wave release. Including locked properties reserved for FSA players or locked properties set aside for game development strategies.

There are over 7 collections released for Brooklyn. Such as Crown Heights and Dumbo Collections. Ranging from the least to most expensive, offering low to high UPX boosts respectively.
The rush to buy land associated to collections will likely be the main focus for many players. Which makes sense - as collections are one of the best ways to boost your UPX earnings.

The Race!!
If you remember from previous articles or videos, to move around the city to a specific location you will need to send your explorer (avatar) to any owned/minted property. Brooklyn like other releases starts off blank. This means there are no minted (owned) properties to send your explorer to. It will be a method of follow the leader as areas start to be minted allowing for more movement and buying opportunities. 

​So this will be interesting. With a huge jump of new players in recent days properties will be seized up in no time.

The FSA fix.
Another challenge is the adjustment to FSA (Fair Start Act), this is the Act to help new players adapt to the game mechanics restricting higher tier players from grabbing up properties en mass. With this new feature it created a secondary market. FSA eligible players were able to buy and flip at a rapid rate. This was a good in the beginning, however it still ended up creating limited/low supply. 

The correction to this, there is a limit and delay on how many properties a FSA player can sell and how often has been implemented.
The adjustment: FSA players can only sell 2 properties per 1 calendar week. Essentially selling 2 properties every week (7 days).

This release will require some coordination, collaboration and teamwork with fellow players if the goal is to purchase any ‘specific’ location. 

Lastly
In all the excitement that comes with this release there is one more - Manhattan will soon have their own treasure hunts. This is good news. Players can now focus on a city of choice with the opportunity to participate in Treasure Hunts and earn more UPX.

It’s that time of year again. 
 
Tomorrow Sunday February 7, 2021 the Super Bowl, National Football League’s annual championship game
will be hosted in Tampa Bay, Florida between Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
 
Often this event is met with huge public energy, from tailgate parties, half time commercials and entertainment to restaurant group reservations.
Ranging from die-hard football fans (American Football not European Football) to those riding the bandwagon of game frenzy.
It has been the undeniably most viewed American sports event year after year. Helping to boost sales in for many businesses that are often
slow during this time of year.

What does this have to do with Blockchain Gaming?
 
Well as you know - the pandemic has put a stop or severe restrictions on large gatherings, celebrations, parties. The key elements, that have made the Super Bowl event so popular has almost seize to exist. 

​Don’t despair Upland has come to the rescue.
Tomorrow the City Champion game begins.
Complete with game formations and helmets to match including piñatas!
 
Each piñata found represents small helmet and chance to receive some in-game currency UPX.
Piñatas will then create random formations indicating the location of the large helmet. Large helmets will reveal themselves once they are discovered.
Each formation is on a timer and resets once the timer expires. 
 
Small helmets are worth 1-point, large helmets are worth 7 points. The city that accumulates the most points wins the Upland World Champion title.
 
Score updates will be provided after each wave in the Super Bowl game and final score provided after the Super Bowl is over.
Upland Kickoff: Tomorrow Sunday February 7 at 3:45pm PST, 6:45pm EST. 
 I will attempt to offer my none treasure hunt and none football skills to the occasion in support of Uplands game strategy.

And now is setting the stage to roll out massive features in 2021. Here's a start.
Last week we saw the end of the first of many Building Competitions, with neighbourhood Panhandle taking first place. Merced Manor and Dogpatch taking 2nd and 3rd respectively.
This challenge created to setup ranking system for neighbourhoods.

COMPETITION DÉTENTE:
We thought the dust was going to settle, Upland had different plans, we enter into another set of competitions. The first started Tuesday Jan 26/21 in Fresno. 

The difference from the Sandbox Neighbourhood Wars - no neighbourhoods.
The players are building the most they can within the timeline allocated. A 3-day event. Every player starting off with the same amount of spud (the necessary token to execute a build).
The cell towers that took away points in the first competition no longer exists, this time it is Llama statues that double the points of other players’ buildings with 30 meter radius - not your own.

The timespan to complete the build of a structure build has been adjusted for these new mechanics.
How well, participating players support and collaborate in this competition will be key.

Prizes:
Prizes for the top 10 winners.
1st receives a surprise Fresno collection property.
COMPETITION LLAMAGEDDON:
Next Friday Jan 26/21, will be in San Francisco.  Similar to the Détente competition with two exceptions.

1) Two separate tiers. Executive and Directors = tier 1, Pros and Uplanders = tier 2.
2) Players will be allowed to speed up their construction by spending UPX. The amount will be fixed and the UPX redistributed into the prize pool for the winners.

As you can see a lot is starting to happen in LLAMAVERSE, and much more on the horizon.
